Makki, a new resin ball-jointed doll (BJD) designed by the award-winning mother/daughter team of Miroslava Brodlova and Mjusi Mjus, is set to become the fourth Meadow Dolls BJD offered exclusively through DOLLS magazine.
Makki is a 20 cm (about 7.8 inches) resin BJD with fair skin tone. The limited edition of 30 dolls comes with a factory face-up, glass eyes, wig, and a full outfit made by Karen Kinyon.
Like last year’s Fabbi, she uses Meadow Dolls’ Chibbi body, which, Brodlova said, is compatible with clothing made for Holala, Ob11, and Lati Yellow dolls, “making clothing easy to find for them. The Chibbi dolls are a great size for a travel doll, and we felt this one might love exploring Paris.”
Charlene Smith, who represents Meadow Dolls in the U.S., said that Makki, “like all Meadow Dolls, was sculpted around faces Miroslava thinks would be cute on the particular size of doll she is sculpting — usually eyes from this picture, nose from another, and so on. Her outfit was made by Karen Kinyon. We suggested the color and style, and Karen took it from there. Always a pleasure to work on projects with her.”
More New Designs
Meadow Dolls is introducing several other new designs this year, as well as releasing some older favorites in new resin colors. They’ve already released Nunnu, the first in Meadow Dolls’ new Sprout line.
At 12 cm (4.7 inches) tall, these are the smallest dolls Brodlova has created so far for Meadow Dolls. One challenge in creating these pocket-sized cuties was to make the dolls as flexible and stable as their size allowed, the artist said.
In addition, a new Tween-size will debut this fall at the Modern Doll Collectors Convention, and there are other new dolls “we want to save as surprises,” Brodlova said. When not hard at work on creating new dolls, the artist said, “at home, I continue to turn the bed and breakfast into a single home. The home improvements for the chickens we hatched continue, too. The garden is a family affair we all enjoy.”
