For many years I have been exclusively making Dianna Effner porcelain dolls, particularly the Little Darlings and dolls of similar size, eventually branching into Effner’s beautiful vinyl LDs by repainting factory painted convention dolls, Bonekas, and Ashton-Drakes. I was always hoping to emulate the masters (Dianna and her Doll Dreamers Guild, whose artist stylings were so incredible). I wanted to be one of them ever since I knew there was such a thing!

The recipient of DOLLS magazine’s Lifetime Achievement Award for 2022 is the late Dianna Effner. The accolade is a posthumous acknowledgment of Effner’s lifetime commitment to doll artistry as an educator, mentor, creator, and entrepreneur. While Effner was lauded for making dolls and doll molds, she was simultaneously making dreams come true. Through her hands-on seminars, classes, and workshops, combined with her business that provided molds and instructional videos, Effner ensured that other women who aspired toward professional success in the doll world would be able to follow their porcelain path.

Dianna Effner passed away Oct. 14, 2020, but her legacy lives on. Collectors around the globe have acknowledged the charm and innocence that her dolls convey to all who bought them. Effner’s dolls truly were Little Darlings, the name that succinctly captured their appearance and their appeal.

With a dollmaking career that exceeded four decades, Dianna Effner accumulated an extensive doll collection, including one-of-a-kinds, samples, and limited editions. Effner’s family has decided to offer doll collectors the chance to acquire some of these treasures for their own collections via auction beginning Sept. 5, 2021.

The doll world lost one of its brightest lights Oct. 14, 2020. At age 75, Dianna Effner lost her battle against cancer and passed away at her daughter’s home in Rolla, Missouri. An undeniable force in the collectible-dolls arena, Effner was a talented artist, successful businesswoman, and valued mentor.
