DOLLS: What is the name of your club?

Kathy Barton (club member): The Doll Circle of Indianapolis

DOLLS: When was the club founded, and what inspired its creation?

Barton: The group was founded on August 7, 1976. The current composition of the group is made up of charter members, refugees from groups that didn’t survive, and new collectors to the hobby. We are a UFDC group created for the pleasure and education of the community and doll collectors in the area. Guests and collectors of all types of dolls are welcome.

China-head dolls were featured in a club presentation.

DOLLS: What is the club’s current mission or main purpose?

Barton: The goal is to provide friendly, interesting, and educational meetings. We try to be ambassadors and educators to encourage others to enjoy the art of doll collecting.

DOLLS: Does the club focus on specific types or styles of dolls?

Barton: The members of the group collect all types of dolls, from antique to modern.

DOLLS: What has been the club’s most significant challenge?

Barton: Our most significant challenge is to find and add members of all ages to the group. We are finding some success in this venture.

A Dianna Effner program was presented in July 2024.

DOLLS: Approximately how many members are in the club today?

Barton: There are 35 members with two more at-large members.

DOLLS: What events does the club host or attend together? Are there any upcoming activities or plans you’re excited about?

Barton: Several members of the group attend the UFDC Convention, Barbie Convention, and Modern Doll Collectors Convention each year. Every two years, in September, our club hosts a regional luncheon. Our annual Christmas party is a fundraiser for local organizations that help people in need.

A Christmas party was enjoyed by club members in December 2024.

DOLLS: Does the club hold regular meetings?

Barton: The club meets the second Saturday of the month either in each other’s houses or at an event center. They start with a business meeting, then show-and-tell, followed by lunch and an educational program on specific dolls or doll topics. The programs are given by members or guest speakers.

DOLLS: What is the process for becoming a member?

Barton: In order to join the group, you must attend two meetings. On your third visit, the group votes on your admittance to the group.

DOLLS: How can others learn more about your club?

Barton: We have a private Facebook page for members and a social media presence as a member of UFDC Region 12. Our club president, Cindy Bailey, is our club contact person.
