DOLLS: What offerings do you have at your store?

Caitlin Salinas: I’ve designed and now sell weighted therapy baby dolls that are used to help dementia patients and people with anxiety — or just to be loved!

DOLLS: Who are the intended buyers of your dolls?

Salinas: I originally created Comfort Cuties for Alzheimer’s patients. My grandmother suffered from Alzheimer’s and many of the residents where she lived would carry around baby dolls. They are heavily weighted and work similarly to a weighted blanket. But most of my customers are people who have anxiety, ADHD, or just love dolls!

Comfort Cameron and Comfort Claire are newborn-size, weighted baby dolls created for dementia patients, although they can be enjoyed by anyone.

DOLLS: How did you first get started in doll sales?

Salinas: I’m a reborn collector and showcase my collection on Instagram. I started showing my therapy dolls on that platform.

DOLLS: Have you had any particularly memorable sales?

Salinas: Yes! I often get messages from customers telling me how much comfort their doll brings to them. It means so much to me because that’s exactly what they were made for.

Mini Comfort Cuties (left photo) are smaller, lighter versions of the Comfort Claire and Comfort Cameron dolls.

DOLLS: What do you enjoy most about this line of work?

Salinas: I love hearing how helpful the dolls are for people of all ages. And I love seeing how people dress their baby up. I wanted the dolls to be realistically sized so my customers can shop for real baby clothes if desired.

DOLLS: If someone wants to learn more about your offerings, what should they do?

Salinas: Visit my website!
