I’ve always been moved by art. It’s the one thing that’s remained constant in my life. No matter what age I am, no matter what life circumstances I’m in, no matter where I am—art compels me.

When I experience good art, I get this deep-in-my-soul kind of feeling that touches me to the core. Everything else stops existing except that moment of interaction and absorption with the piece, or the song or whatever way it manifests. And in the process, it changes me somehow, further pushing me along the pathway of self-discovery.

When I first accepted the job with DOLLS, my understanding of dolls was certainly limited. I didn’t really have a perception of them as art then. But it didn’t take me long to realize that I had a dream job getting paid to read about, write about and select art!

And to this day, I’ll be working like crazy to finish a deadline, tend to the umpteenth administrative detail or sort through the latest publishing quandary, when I see a piece that hits me hard, pulls me in and snaps everything back into perspective—be it through a poignant expression, an exquisite sculpt or visionary interpretation of life caught and immortalized in three-dimensional form.

It’s then I remember that to work for DOLLS means I get to be surrounded by that thing that moves me most. Not bad, not bad at all.
